Marketing that doesn't make sense...

Okay. So I have an ax to grind with whoever developed one of the marketing campaigns for Progressive insurance. If you've seen the TV commercials, maybe you've already thought of this, but if not, here's my grievance.

The commercials talk about how helpful the customer service people are by giving quotes from Progressive as well as their competitors. And then the announcer says the most stupid thing I've ever heard.

"Hey, if they're this helpful when you're shopping for car insuranace, imagine how they'll once you're a customer."

Am I the only one that thinks this is an incredibly stupid marketing campaign? Everyone knows people are much more helpful when they are trying to get your business than after they already have it. Why do you think cellphone companies offer special plans to new customers, not existing customers?

If you want to see this commercial, go to the Progressive Web site and scroll down to the 6th commercial.
